When I look back over the last year, I can see that Ayden has come a long way. Last year he had about 15 to 20 words in his vocabulary. Now he has well over 300. The last four months (with ABA) have been astounding in his personal growth. About two thirds of his language have developed in the past four months. He is able to communicate clearly almost all of his wants and needs to us using one to two word phases. He does have a few three to seven word sentences that he is using more and more.
One great improvement we have begun seeing, is his interest in other children. When he sees a child that he likes at the park, he try's to hug and kiss them. Obviously that doesn't go over well with strangers, but for us, it is a big improvement from his previous social skills (that were nonexistent). He also has taken a huge interest in his big brother. At night he holds Evan's hand to ensure Evan will go with him to bed. He asks for people who are out of sight. He has asked for volunteers, teachers and therapists that he no longer sees. He is showing us that he cares!
The other huge improvement in progress over the last four months is Ayden's receptive language. In the past, Ayden would not respond to any commands. Now he knows how to smile, blow kisses, throw things in the trash and sink, wave, point, etc. when we ask him to. That is my favorite improvement. I finally know that he understands some things that I am saying.
